Furthermore, generally speaking, larger dealerships are part of a chain of dealerships that have access to even bigger inventories, as well as a variety of customization, repair, and financing options. This can create a convenient, one-stop shopping model that can allow you to buy whatever car you want and customize it however you see fit. You can also usually special order a vehicle and get it in a reasonable amount of time. Larger dealerships will also usually have broader financial connections, so there are many ways for you to finance your vehicle. It is also possible that pricing will be better at a larger dealership than compared to a smaller one, as a larger dealership is moving more cars, enabling them to lower their overall price and still give you a good sale. 

However, don’t write off the benefits of making a purchase from a smaller car dealer. Thanks to their size, smaller dealers may allow for a more personalized approach. This means that there may be less pressure, less obligation for the salespeople to stick to corporate goals, and more of a chance for you to get a better deal if you give them repeat business. It is also worth noting that they will likely have fewer hoops to jump through when it comes to negotiation, potentially making it easier for you to get a deal that works for you, or at least a deal at better financial terms. 

At the end of the day, these rules will apply differently to different situations. Yes, as a rule of thumb, larger dealerships may be able to give you a better price than a smaller one, but what if the smaller one is offering a special discount as they try to move cars off of their lot?
